RAGE is a Scandinavian metal project written and performed by Hakun Kamminga, and mixed at Chateau Graylands using renoise and Reaper. It was recorded in the late 1990's and early 2000's in the spirit of the original Norwegian Black Metal classics, using a pair of headphones to pick up the vocals, as there was no proper mic available at the time, and a guitar just plugged straight into the sound card and later treated with Renoise plugins. The project had been long forgotten and was rediscovered when an old laptop was found that still miraculously worked after a couple of decades languishing in RAGE's attic, with an ancient Linux distro on it that had Renoise still installed.
Where possible, the tracks were remixed using the stock Renoise plugins, which incidentally are pretty fucking decent. Where the Renoise XRNS were not avaiable, the tracks were restored from ogg files, with vocal tracks and bass tracks sometimes being added to enhance the originals. This work was done at both Chateau Graylands, my studio in Ayrshire, and in Monmouth in South Wales using a portable studio setup and plenty of bottles of claret and craft ales (I have a tannin headache as I write this the morning after one of the sessions). One track, Beneath the House Upon The Hill, was recorded at Chateau Graylands by RAGE and C0unt WAVnstein. All tracks were eventually mastered using Reaper, to a timpanic membrane scraping nine Loudness Units relative to Full Scale.
The Demons' Call video was filmed at Crosbie Kirk and Fullarton Woods, both in South Ayrshire. It was decided to shoot it in black and white as we felt the greens and blues of the beautiful day in late summer were rather incongruous with the demonic lyrical content of the track. -- c0_WAV, May 2025.
